At The Moulin Rouge

First appearing at the Moulin Rouge
Then a touring theatre of his own
This master of natural talent occupied
The much coveted performers throne
They said there was near hysteria
When they watched him perform
Stretching hid bodily functions
So far beyond the accepted norm.

Breaking wind at will
In an inoffensive way
Impersonating sounds
Generally heard day to day
Nurses in the aisles on hand
To help,ladies loose their stays
As they laughed uncontrollably
At Monsieur Pujol and his ways.

He gave private performances
Leaving kings and dukes bemused
It was said in true royal fashion
Queen Victoria was not amused.
All things must come to end
And with his advancing age
This Flatulist extraordinaire
Had to retire from the stage.

In our modern times his act
Would have likely been seen
Courtesy of a tablet,  PC
Or large home TV screen.
Now just a fond memory from
Those less sophisticated days
When our entertainment came
From more innocent ways.
